Periodontitis is caused by the presence of bacterial deposits in contact with the gums. They are therefore infectious diseases that must be treated by eliminating the microbes responsible for the infection.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Principles of treatment<\/h3>\n

The objective of periodontitis treatment is to disinfect the space between the gum and the tooth by removing bacterial plaque and tartar. This disinfection is based on :<\/p>\n

    \n
  • <\/i><\/span>
    learning an adapted brushing method. Without this, the periodontitis recurs very quickly after the end of the treatment;<\/div><\/li>\n
  • <\/i><\/span>
    A cleaning of the surface of the dental roots, under the gum, in order to eliminate the tartar and the dental plaque which are present there;<\/div><\/li>\n
  • <\/i><\/span>
    the possible prescription of an anti-infectious treatment based on mouthwash and sometimes antibiotics.<\/div><\/li><\/ul>\n

    1. Non-surgical treatment<\/h3>\n

    This is the first-line treatment proposed. It consists of sanitation under the gum, by passing fine instruments between the gum and the tooth, in the periodontal pockets. It is often compared to deep scaling.<\/p>\n

    2. Surgical treatment<\/h3>\n

    These treatments consist of cleaning and disinfecting very deeply around the teeth by surgically lifting the gums. These treatments are usually done in the dental practice under local anesthesia.<\/p>\n

    2\u2019. Regeneration of lesions<\/h3>\n

    Les tissus d\u00e9truits par les parodontites (os, ligament, c\u00e9ment et gencive) ne peuvent en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral pas \u00eatre r\u00e9par\u00e9s. In some special cases, these tissues can be partially or totally reconstructed.<\/p>\n

    3. Periodontal maintenance<\/h3>\n

    Once the treatment has been carried out, and in order to maintain the results for as long as possible, it is essential to set up a very rigorous follow-up that will last a lifetime. This is called periodontal maintenance. These are very meticulous gingival sanitation sessions that help avoid reinfection of the gums.<\/p>\n<\/div>
