PRF

Platelet Rich Fibrin

The PRF concept is based on whole blood centrifugation. At the end of the centrifugation, a fibrin clotcontaining platelets and a majority of white cells is obtained.

This fibrin clot called Platelet Rich Fibrin or PRF will progressively and constantly release growth factors or cytokines into the environment.

The expected purpose of these growth factors is to accelerate mucosal and bone healing.

Numerous international publications are available and demonstrate the effectiveness of PRF in many indications: in oral surgery (implantology, bone grafts, periodontal surgery, extractions, etc.), in orthopedic, aesthetic and dermatologic surgery.

PRF is considered a wound healing biomaterial synthesizing in a single membrane all the parameters necessary for optimal wound healing: a polymerized fibrin matrix in tetramolecular architecture, intrinsic incorporation of platelet and leukocyte cytokines into the fibrin mesh, platelets, leukocytes and also some circulating stem cells.

However, although the cytokines trapped in the PRF and progressively released allow the acceleration of all cellular phenomena, the coherent and structured fibrin matrix necessarily remains the key element of all PRF-potentiated wound healing. This totally natural biomaterial seems to effectively accelerate the physiological healing process.
