Frequently asked questions about dental implants

What is a dental implant?

The dental implant or artificial root takes the form of a screw made of a biocompatible material; most often titanium but also zirconia (ceramic). It replaces the root of a damaged or missing tooth and provides an anchor for a future denture.

Does it hurt?

The placement of a dental implant is performed under local anesthesia or conscious sedation.

How long does a dental implant last?

Generally speaking, dental implantsare among the most durable treatments. Strict dental hygiene and follow-up appointments will ensure the durability of the implant and prosthetic treatment.

It is difficult to give a price, each patient requires a personalized study to establish a precise price and treatment plan. This type of treatment is not reimbursed by social security, although some complementary health insurance plans may cover part of the cost.

Is there an age limit?

There is no age limit for having dental implants. A pre-implant examination is necessary. A 3D X-ray allows us to verify several elements (bone volume, infections, fracture of a root …).

I’ve been told I don’t have enough bones?

Only a 3D X-ray (cone beam) can accurately determine the bone volume. In the event of a shortage there are alternative solutions.
